Life has an interesting way of sending me messages, lately.
Yesterday, I’ve been told that there were some restructuration in the company and got laid off. Woah.
I am half-happy and half-sad.
Half-happy because, inside, I knew I wouldn’t stay forever in this job. Having followed graphic design classes in the last year, I couldn’t stay too long in a regular cubicule job that had nothing to do with what my hearth desired. Not to mention it wouldn’t do good for my long-term career goals and projects.
Half-sad because you do get attached to the people and the place. I was a receptionnist, so I got to greet everyone each morning. Even thought I knew everybody at some different level, I still knew them.
Oh, and I could get free latte coffee… Yep, good times.
Right now, I am trying to focus on the good things coming up. I will have lots of choices to make in the following weeks/months, so this is certainly going to be one interesting ride.
In the meantime, I guess I’ll have more time to blog. :p
Art vs craft 
oooh toughluck hun. Hey, if it wasn’t doing much for your future, maybe life is telling you to move on. I know the feeling *flashbacks*. I think the only thing keeping me at my job is some of my co-workers.*sigh* life is maddening.
Like you said earlier, you wanted more time to blog, now you have it!

As you said, life is giving you a big message. I remember the last time I got laid off, the feeling, the rejection, the frustration… and that was more than 10 years ago!
But don’t dwell in those feelings, use this momento as a fuel to pursue what you really want. Put your goals on paper & put them in view. Give yourself deadlines (it helps getting things done), and most of all, take this as what it is, a wake-up call to action.
It’s time to start that dream career you’ve always wanted! GO GURRRL!!!

I agree with Hanna completely. There will be a new door opening for you.
I hope you will be able to give yourself the gift of taking some unstructured time and just do only what you want to do. No plans – just live in the moment and do only what you what to do in the moment. This “unstructured – in the moment” kind of “vacation” is nurturing and inspiring. You will see!
I too was axed from my reception position… a huge blessing in disguise. However, it does suck to lose: your job, income and daily contact with people you have come to care about.
Stay on the creative good foot. Continue to blog and network with like-minded cool crafters and artists. Good things will come along. I attended a screening of Handmade nation and here I am today on your mailing list and writing this message to you.

If you are entitled to unemployment, so not waste a moment. Go and apply immediately. Here in New York it is all done on line these days. Perhaps you’ve got the same sitch in your neck of the woods.

Being in Canada, we have something called “Assurance Emploi” and, luckily, I am eligible. In the meantime, I am getting my papers in orders and planning the next weeks. 🙂
